Tommy Q was introduced as a gallery of art and antiques in Los Angeles, California in 2002. Founded by Thomas C. Queen, who relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 2005, Tommy Q continues to hold special art events at MOUTON, 954 N. High St. in the Short North Arts District. Mr. Queen continues as a private dealer and consultant in antiques and art, and counts many private collectors and American museums as clients. His specialty areas remain the material culture of the Shakers, and American folk string musical instruments.
Mr. Queen has curated several museum exhibitions, most recently "Appalachian Strings: The Instruments, Their Makers, The Music" at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster in the summer of 2012. He also wrote the accompanying catalog. He curated "Golden Threads: The Stories Behind the Needle", a comprehensive exhibition of Shaker textile arts at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. As well, he served as the exhibition designer for "The Shakers: Abiding Inspiration in Faith and Design", at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in the fall of 2009.
His appraisal services have been utilized by several American museums, many private collectors, and the Internal Revenue Service. He has also assisted in the dispersal of estate collections of fine American antiques, and is happy to provide his 30 years of knowledge and experience in this process.
